Malkieri

Andere{ Gate Guard·Kandor·Malkier
NStN (ch.15 hb.206) Unidentified "Al'Lan Mandragoran! The Light preserve us, we heard you were dead fighting Aiel at the Shining Walls!" The exclamation came from a young guard, taller than the rest, almost as tall as Lan. Young, perhaps a year or two less than he, yet the gap seemed ten years. A lifetime. The guard bowed deeply, left hand on his knee. "Tai'shar Malkier!" True blood of Malkier, "I stand ready, Majesty." Bukama refused to be quiet. "You stand ready for what, boy? You cut your hair short and leave it unbound!" he spat the words. "You're sworn to a Kandori Lord! By what right do you claim to be Malkieri?"
NStN (ch.16 hb.215) Unidentified Ryne tells Lan that Edeyn Arrel has raised the Golden Crane, in his name, and has been from Fal Moran to Maradon gathering support. Suddenly Seroku's surprise that Lan intended to ride north took on a whole new meaning. As did the young guards assertion that he stood ready.
ToM (ch.07 hb.134) A lean, dangerous looking man, his long hair held back with a hadori looked back over his shoulder at Lan. He'd given up his Kandori uniform finally and was wearing a deep black cloak and hunting leathers.

Breyan Mandragoran{ Malkier
EotW (ch.47 hb.595) (pb.709) Over come with jealousy when Akir ascended to the throne of Malkier, and not her husband, Lain, she betrayed him to his death, then plotted with Cowin Gemallan Fairheart to take throne for her son Isam. It is believed she and her infant son were killed by Trollocs while fleeing Malkier.

Bukama Marenellin{ Warrior·Guardian·Malkier
      a.k.a. Hero of Salmarna
Taller than most men, almost as tall as Lan. His hair was solid gray now, worn cut at the shoulder, as tradition required, but his back was straight, his arms hard, his blue eyes clear and keen. A thin braided leather cord held his hair back, resting in the permanent groove across his forehead it had made over the years.
NStN (ch.01 hb.14) Bukama follows Lan as he checks on the men keeping watch on the last day of the Aiel War. When Malkier fell, twenty men were assigned the task of carrying infant Lan Mandragoran to safety. Bukama was one of only five who made it out and he is the last alive. Bukama was steel clothed in flesh. Steel his will, duty his soul.
NStN (ch.01) Bukama is perpetually gloomy. His only expression is a glower.
NStN (ch.12 hb.174) With Lan as they scout the retreating Aiel as they cross Kinslayer's Dagger heading to the Spine of the World. Lan and Bukama know Pedron Niall will end the war, but Caniedrin wants to fight.
NStN (ch.15 hb.208) Last name and nickname given. After he almost picks a fight with a young Malkieri guard at the Canluum gate Bukama is welcomed by Alin Seroku formally as, "Bukama Marenellin, the hero of Salmarna."
NStN (ch.16) They make their way to The Blue Rose where they meet Ryne Venamar. After learning about Edeyn and being attacked by six assassins, Lan decides they will go to Chachin.

NStN (ch.20) They stop for breakfast in Manala and note that Alys asks questions of the villagers.
NStN (ch.21) They travel on to Chachin dealing with brigands and an assassin on the way.
NStN (ch.22) When they arrive in Chachin, Lan leads them to the Aesdaishar Palace. Bukama and Ryne are given small rooms near the barracks.
NStN (ch.25 hb.307)
Bukama and Ryne are practicing swords when Moiraine passes by with the shatayan. It was fighting, if only in practice; blows landed on flesh hard enough for Moiraine to hear them. All landed by Ryne.
NStN (ch.25) At Moiraine's request, Lan has Bukama follow Merean. He reports to Siuan that she spent the day with Prince Consort Brys.
NStN (ch.26) Merean has Ryne assassinate Bukama.

She is a widow. Her sigil is a crouching lioness. She is beautiful with large, dark eyes and long black hair with touches of white.
She is in her early forties.
NStN (ch.16) In Fal Moran, Edeyn takes Lan as her lover when he is fifteen.
NStN (ch.16 hb.214) Ryne tells Lan that Edeyn raised the Golden Crane, in his name, and has been from Fal Moran to Maradon gathering support.
NStN (ch.16 hb.217) The dead could not be returned to life, a land any more than a man. Only, now, Edeyn Arrel wanted to try. Edeyn was his carneira, his first lover. He had been fifteen and she more than twice that. Your carneira owns a part of your soul forever.
NStN (ch.16 hb.219) Outside the Gates of Heaven in Canluum, six men approach Lan, and Lan knew before their hands moved, before their eyes focused on him and their steps quickened. He had faced too many men who wanted to kill him not to know. Darkfriends? Or assassins sent by Edeyn Arrel?
NStN (ch.20 hb.256) Bukama suggests and it was possible that Edeyn had sent "Lady Alys" to watch them.
NStN (ch.22) In the Aesdaishar Palace, Edeyn swears loyalty to Lan as King of Malkier. Later she tells him that she plans to marry him to her daughter Iselle. She takes him to bed.
NStN (ch.22) Edeyn still wears a white ki'sain indicating that she is a widow.
NStN (ch.26) Edeyn intends to give Lan's hadori to Iselle then force her and Lan to marry.
NStN (epilogue) Edeyn falls apart and cuts her hair short when her daughter is murdered.
EotW (ch.47) She has the same married name as the late Cowin "Fairheart" Gemallan with a slight spelling difference, a well loved Malkieri hero who was, in fact, a Darkfriend who betrayed Malkier to the Blight.

Elnore Mandragoran{ Malkier

Gorenellin{ Jewel Merchant·Malkier
Now a jewel merchant in Saldaea. He is of Malkieri heritage and in his middle years.
KoD (ch.20) Weilin Aldragoran, Managan and Gorenellin sell their gems in The Queen's Lance in Kayacun. Nynaeve enters and tells them that Lan is riding to the Last Battle. Will he ride alone? Laughing and crying, they swear to ride with him.
This gave me the "happy chills"... they will fight for their KING !!

Isam Mandragoran{ Malkier
       a.k.a. Slayer§
Son of Lain and Breyan Mandragoran, Cousin to Lan.
He is one facet of Slayer.
He bears a strong family resemblance to Lan.
EotW (ch.47 hb.596) (pb.709) Breyan fled Malkier with her infant son Isam, and was run down by Trollocs as she headed south. No one knows their fate for certain.
TSR (ch.28) As Slayer, he is tall and dark-haired. He has a cold scent that is not really human.
TSR (ch.42) He looks enough like Lan to be his brother.
TSR (ch.53) He has dark hair and blue eyes and a face all hard planes and angles.

Iselle Arrel{{{§ Chachin, Kandor·Malkier
The arrogant daughter of Edeyn Arrel.
A tall, full-mouthed young woman in pale green silk, little older than a girl, with black hair that fell below her hips and a small blue dot painted on her forehead where Moiraine's kesiera hung.
NStN (ch.22 hb.286) Mentioned. After swearing fealty to Lan, Edeyn Arrel tells him that she plans to marry him to her daughter Iselle, she is seventeen and hasn't chosen her carneira yet.
Then she takes him to bed?
NStN (ch.25 hb.314) "I need your assistance. I wish to go to the White Tower. My Mother wants me to marry. I would not mind Lan as my carneira if Mother were not already his, but when I marry, I think it will be one of my Warders. I will be Green Ajah."
NStN (ch.25) Iselle wears the blue ki'sain of an unmarried woman.
NStN (ch.26) Merean has Iselle bring Diryk to a deserted balcony of the Aesdaishar Palace. Iselle brings Prince Consort Brys as well. Merean wraps them in Air and drops all three off the balcony.

TGH (glossary) He disappeared in 981 NE, after a trip to the Blight.

Lain Mandragoran{ Malkier
al'Akir Mandragoran's brother, Lan's uncle, Isam's father.
EotW (ch.47 hb.595) (pb.709) "On a dare, Lain led his lances through the Blight to the Blasted Lands, perhaps to Shayol Ghul itself. Lain's wife, Breyan, made that dare for the envy that burned her heart that al'Akir had been raised to the throne instead of Lain. The King and Lain were as close as brothers can be, even after the royal "al" was added to Akir's name, but jealousy wracked Breyan. Lain was acclaimed for his deeds, and rightfully so, but not even he could outshine al'Akir. He was, man and king, such as comes once in a hundred years."
"Lain died in the Blasted Lands with most of those who followed him, men Malkier could ill afford to lose, and Breyan blamed the King, saying that Shayol Ghul itself would have fallen if al'Akir had lead the rest of the Malkieri north with her husband."

Lan Mandragoran{ººº Warder·BladeMaster·Uncrowned King of Malkier
      Aan'allein
      a.k.a. Andra
      Bonded to Moiraine Damodred
EotW (ch.02) as Andra

Managan{{ Jewel Merchant in Saldaea·Malkier
KoD (ch.20)
ToM (ch.23)

Nazar Kurenin{{ Kandor·Malkier
A jut-nosed man.
NStN (ch.15 hb.209) The young guard surely had been born after the Blight swallowed Malkier, but Kurenin, was twice Lan's age, his hair and beard were cut in the style of the Kandori, though the years had not erased the mark of his hadori completely.
ToM (ch.07 hb.134) Had put his hadori away as a lad... now in his seventies he was wearing one in his white hair and carrying a sword.

Ryne Venamar{{ Darkfriend·Merchant's Guard·Arafel·Malkier
Besides Bukama he was Lan's best friend. He is Malkieri, but dresses like an Arafellin.
He is very tall and charming with blue eyes. He is five years older than Lan.
NStN (ch.16) Full name and nationality given. Ryne's father takes him to live in Arafel when Lan was ten.
NStN (ch.16) At The Blue Rose in Canluum, Lan and Bukama meet Ryne Venamar. After learning about Edeyn and being attacked by six assassins, Lan decides they will go to Chachin.
NStN (ch.18 hb.242) Described. After meeting with an Aes Sedai at The Gates of Heaven, the very tall man with two belled braids, strode past Moiraine wearing a scowl.
NStN (ch.19) The three of them ride north from Canluum. They notice a woman following and trick her into meeting them. They agree to escort Alys to Chachin.
NStN (ch.19 hb.252) Moiraine paid them in Tar Valon marks. Ryne glared at the coin as he turned it over in his fingers.
NStN (ch.19 hb.252) Ryne was quite charming, really, with a dimple in his cheek when he smiled, and a sparkle in his blue eyes. When she finally inquired why he was going to Chachin, his face turned sad. "Every man has to die somewhere." Ryne said softly, and went off to make up his blankets. A very odd answer.
NStN (ch.20) He is an outstanding swordsman, even better than Lan.
NStN (ch.20 hb.257) Flirted with the Lady Alys, and to his delight and amazement she flirted back. Alys commands they stop for breakfast in Manala. The woman actually believed she was in charge. From the way Ryne jumped to obey, so did he.
NStN (ch.21 hb.263) Ryne twitched and peered wide-eyed at Alys, fetched and trotted and offered up compliments like a courier on a leash, still bouncing between enraptured and fearful.
NStN (ch.21 hb.271) After Caniedrin's assassination attepmt on Lan and Moiraine, she wants to Heal him, to keep him alive for questioning. "He's dead already," Ryne said. "Can you Heal that?" He sounded interested in seeing whether or not she could.
NStN (ch.22) When they arrive in Chachin, Lan leads them to the Aesdaishar Palace. Bukama and Ryne are given small rooms near the barracks. He cared almost as much about his appearance, especially in front of women, young or old, as he did about women themselves. Perhaps it had been the thought of appearing in travel-stained garb in front of the shatayan and the serving women that had soured him.
NStN (ch.25 hb.307) Bukama and Ryne are practicing swords when Moiraine passes by with the shatayan. It was fighting, if only in practice; blows landed on flesh hard enough for Moiraine to hear them. All landed by Ryne.
NStN (ch.26 hb.323) And surprisingly, further down the walk stood a glowering Ryne, his arms folded across his chest. So he was a Darkfriend.
NStN (ch.26) Lan and Ryne fight; Lan wins, and kills Ryne. "He was better. But he thought I was finished, with only one arm. He never understood. You surrender after you're dead."

Weilin Aldragoran{{ Merchant in Saldaea·Malkier
A gem merchant in Saldaea. He is originally Malkieri
He wears a fine ring on every finger.
KoD (ch.20) Weilin Aldragoran, Managan and Gorenellin sells their gems in The Queen's Lance in Kayacun. Nynaeve enters and tells them that Lan is riding to the Last Battle. Will he ride alone? Laughing and crying, they swear to ride with him.
